The question for many is why use a splash or landing page for my primary business"
Simple.
"A confused mind never buys."
One of the biggest problems with corporate network marketing companies is there lack of knowledge of direct marketing and replicated websites.
The root problem with replicated websites is Google's duplicate content issue. When the Google algorithm discovers duplicate content acrosss different domains, it will penalize the sites with its duplicate content slap.

There is a slogan in marketing.
"A confused mind never buys."
This means that when you have a corporate replicated site, the visitor or prospect has no idea where to click next.
He is literally inundated with links, information and usually leaves without a trace.
Now, let's compare that strategy to a splash or landing page (with auto-responder) where the visitor has two choices.
1. Opt in to your website in exchange for some valuable self-liquidated offer.
2. Leave.
The key point is that the landing or splash page is TARGETED to your company's primary service or product.
That is the key to online marketing.
You can target your message or ad to the exact prospect and you can track and test and follow this up using analytics.
Now, you may be wondering why use this strategy if you going to be generating this type of traffic with SEO and the search engines.
1. One answer lies in Testing.
Any good marketer must test his results and by using PPC first, you can take the results or "intelligence" from your PPC campaign and then build out your SEO campaigns around what is converting on your sites.
2. Time. As you will learn in the SEO modules, it takes time to get "ranked" at the top of the engines. Conversely, you can have your PPC campaigns up in a few hours.
3. Market Share….The more market-share we have…the better. That percentage of people who are going to click on your ad..well you'll want that traffic too.
