There is a little bit of Charlie in all of us.
No, I’m not talking about the drugs, strippers, and gold teeth (yes, it was recently revealed that he has gold tooth from too much drug use) http://scoop.today.com/_news/2011/02/04/5987480-charlie-sheens-mouthful-of-gold-teeth)
What I am talking about is how Charlie Sheen has carefully placed his “brand” almost everywhere.
Deep inside, Charlie knows (or been told by some brilliant marketing advisors) that by placing himself as the underdog against the mighty, and powerful television executives he would come out ahead.
And he was right.
Earlier this month, Charlie set a Guinness record-setting 1 million Twitter followers in just 25 hours and 17 minutes.
His bizarre antics are pure entertainment and clearly Americans are eating it up.
Sheen and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban are in talks about Sheen hosting a talk show or starring in a reality show on HDNet, the network Cuban owns (via ESPN).
Sheen just launched his own website, stocked with his own merchandise.
Yes, some have grown tired of the Charlie Sheen Sideshow and in the wake of Sheen’s antics are hundreds of employees that have been laid off due to Sheen’s off-air legal troubles and several frustrated publicists.
But, at the end of the day, Sheen knows three things.
1. The internet and social media has changed the landscape of entertainment.
2. Sheen clearly has a grasp of social media.
3. Americans would love to tune in to see a behind-the-scenes look into one of Hollywood’s lost sons.
Let’s see if Charlie has enough juice to pull it off.
